Short biography of Prof. John Leong
Prof. Leong, aged 61, is an eminent orthopaedic surgeon with outstanding clinical and research experience in spinal and paediatric orthopaedics. He is the first Chinese to head La Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie, a worldwide orthopaedic association, and the first Hong Kong clinician to become an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Leong has taught at the University of Hong Kong for over 40 years where he took up senior positions such as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Director of the School of Postgraduate Medical Education and Training of the Faculty. He was also involved in the work of a number of executive committees of the University. Prof. Leong is the Chairman of the Hospital Governing Committee of Castle Peak Hospital, a member of the Medical Council and Chairman of its Licentiate Committee, a member of the Operations Review Committee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, and a former member of the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hospital Authority. He loves playing golf, reading English novels and listening to classical music during his free time. His favourite newspaper is the Sunday Times.
