Background of IIM

The International Institute of Management (IIM) was incorporated as a non-profit organization in February 1995, by a group of professionals to specifically address the development needs of managers to meet the challenges arising from rapid changes in the region. IIM has been granted Letters Patent of Armorial Bearings with Supporters and Badge by the Royal College of Arms (Coat-of-Arms) as a professional institute. The Institute now has an active overseas branch in Washington DC, USA. Other branches located in PRC, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, and Canada shall be active shortly. The International Headquarters is in Hong Kong as it is strategically positioned to serve the needs of managers worldwide.

ARMORIAL BEARINGS OF
IIM Coat of Arms

In 1995, “The International Institute of Management Limited” made an application to the Royal College of Arms for a grant of The Armorial Bearings of IIM with Supporters and Badge based upon a design prepared by with the founding members of IIM. The application was accepted and The Letters Patent was then prepared and presented by H.E. Paston-Bedingfeld, Esq., York Herald, on 22 January 1996 at the Government House, to the Queen’s representative in Hong Kong, His Excellency The Hon. Christopher Patten who in turn presented The Letters Patent to the President of IIM, The Hon. Dominic Wong, OBE,JP.

The Right to the Armorial Bearings conferred by the Grant of Armorial Bearings, made by the Kings of Arms under the Royal Authority of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, is a limited Right, and is not a Right which the grantee can pass onto a third party. Any reproductions of “The International Institute of Management Limited” Armorial Bearings in any form thereof is not permitted without the prior written consent of the Council of the Institute.

Given below are details of the interpretation of the heraldic form of design.

The Shield

Across the top of the shield is a band with an open book in the center. Written on the book are two Latin words, “Commercium” for Commerce on the left and “Industria” for Industry on the right. On the lower part of the shield are two Keys representing the Keys to Knowledge and a pair of Scales representing Fairness in Dealings.

The Supporters

On the left of the shield is a White Unicorn with Golden Horn representing Righteousness, and on the right is an Imperial Golden Dragon representing Flexibility.

The Crest

The crest is an Ancient Crown representing the authority of IIM as a professional body. Rising from the Crown is a Philippine Eagle representing The International Institute of Management Limited branching internationally. Holding in the Eagle’s Claw is a Timer representing Effective Use of Time.

The Badge

Initials of The International Institute of Management Limited in a logo form.

The Motto

“Achievement Through Professionalism” is self explanatory.
