IIM Study Tour to Toishan, 19-21 September 2005
The Institute's annual excursion this year was way different from the previous years'. Partly an industrial visit and partly a leisurely trip, we've chosen Toishan (台山) County.
Through the meticulous arrangement by our tour organizer/leader Simon Tam, also the Institute's Hon. Treasurer, the delegation of twenty enjoyed the silky smooth two-and-a-half days' program.
Amongst the delegate members were Mr. Dominic Wong, GBS, OBE, JP, Hon. President, and his lovely wife Cecilia, Chairman Prof Dr Maurice Teo, Deputy Chairman Felix Chan, and Chairman Joe Chau & Membership Officer Jade Lee of our Hong Kong Committee.
The first stop of the trip was Xangchuan Island (上川島), an outlying island of Toishan City. The delegation was received by the management of the seaside resort “海上樂園”.

After enjoying relaxing moments at the seaside paradise, the delegation proceeded to the St. Francis Xayiar Chapel on the island, a prominent Christian monument made famous by the visit of our Chief Executive the Hon. Donald Tsang (who is now also the Companion of the Institute).

The main attraction on day 2 was the visit to Guohua Tai Power Plant (國華臺電廠), the largest thermal power plant in Asia. Being a newly commissioned plant adopting the most advanced power generation technology the factory is clean and tidy, and matched well with the carefully nurtured green vegetation around the area.
